"Frame"
The initial approach was to draw the life-size silhouette of
the Stegocerus on plywood paneling sheets. As the goal is to build 1/2 body model, the plywood
becomes the centerline of the body, as only the left side of the body will be rendered in 3D.

"Wire Body"
After the body panels were assembled, the resin head was mounted and 1/4" hardware wire was wrapped
to shape the body and provide depth and dimension.

"Rough Foam"
Once the wire was completed, polyurethane foam was applied. It was embedded
into the wire for strength. Several layers were applied to build up the body
shape, especially the foreleg and shoulder and rear muscle structure and tail.

"Carved Foam"
After the foam was allowed to expand and harden it had to be carved down to a
more recognizable shape. This sounds easier than it was, and additional foam layers
had to be applied to fill gaps and holes between carving sessions. Carve, foam and repeat.

"Textured Skin Surface"
After the foam carving and sculpting is complete, a "skin" was applied, smoothed, shaped and
textured using a specialized silicone skin mold. This gives the model
a more rigid body and provides a needed skin texture for realism.

"Painted 3D Model"
The final handpainted and airbrushed model, ready for mounting. Once mounted on a wall
the right foreleg and rear leg will be handpainted to complete the display.
